HOW IT BEGAN
Late in 2016, I got it in my head that I wanted a Maine Coon cat.

The last cat I bought was in the early 1970's, and I paid a whopping $20.00 for him.
In those days, you looked in the local newspaper classified section, found some interesting ads and gave those people a call - on a telephone attached to a wall.
You went to their home and met the mom and kittens firsthand.
You played with them for a while, chose the one you liked best, and off you went with your new treasure to start a new adventure in life.

They weren't 'family members' in those days - although they were undoubtedly a huge part of the family.
That cat, a Siamese x Burmese kitten, lived with me for the next twenty-one years and he went everywhere with me.
We moved a couple of times, including to the next province of British Columbia and back again, and he was with me for my first and second marriages - although he did try to make it hard for the second hubby to get comfortable, lol!
Fast Forward to 2017
Scammers Everywhere!
Fast forward to 2017 and starting a search for another cat. I was flat-out astonished at what was happening in the world!
Every long-haired kitten was advertised as a Maine Coon or a Siberian or Norwegian Forest Cat and people were asking hundreds of dollars, even thousands, for these kittens, and - people were paying it! They were sending off deposits blatantly advertised as not refundable - sight unseen.

I looked into purebred catteries advertised on the internet and Facebook, but the options were overwhelming. The 'legitimate' catteries were charging thousands of dollars, and --- the scammers were everywhere there too!!!
