Welcome to NATURE'S CALLING At Cat Paw Farm

Since 2018

East-Central Alberta, Canada

About Us

We live in east/central Alberta, about 15 minutes southeast of Consort, just a tad shy of the Saskatchewan border.

We embrace a natural and holistic lifestyle, with Mother Nature as our chief executive officer, and our education and understanding of biology guide us rather than being dictated by traditional breeder dogma.

We believe all companion animals have value, not just the "purebreds", and our primary belief is that natural nutrition—real food—is the key to optimum health.

We reject the excessive fear-mongering propagated by the allopathic/modern medical systems, and we do not support the trillion-dollar pharmaceutical industry or the highly processed and ultra-profitable big food corporations.

The more affordable, healthy, and responsibly bred animals are available for companionship, the less likely irresponsible and profit-driven breeding will be accepted.

Why are we breeding?

We choose to breed because our society NEEDS physically and psychologically HEALTHY animal companions.

We don't need the ones costing thousands of dollars or the ones that have been rescued and need homes.

What we need is a middle-of-the-road approach.

We need to intentionally and responsibly breed healthy animals for our companions and friends.

I don't want to see more animals inbred or line-bred to achieve the latest and most popular look and style. In some cases, the cost of 'purebred' health has already become irreparable.

I don't want them fiddled with and stylized without fur, altered facial structure, exaggerated traits, or supersized, and I certainly don't want them malnourished, traumatized, and terrified of life.

Every animal deserves to be cared for and allowed to start life 'responsibly bred'!

We are given dire warnings not to breed any animal other than pedigree (purebred) animals.

These warnings come with many worst-case scenarios, complete with serious fear-mongering.

"Breeding should be done only to 'improve the breed', which requires a strong knowledge of the pedigrees …"

"The number of homeless pets, dogs and cats alike, unable to find forever homes is heartbreaking."

Of course, there's much more, but these two statements basically summarise the indoctrinated and generalized view.

There are two camps. "Purebred" are the only ones who should be intentionally bred (and pure breeding has many rules and regulations to make it worth the cost).

On the other hand, there are far too many animals without homes, and no more should be bred until we find homes for those we already have.

The COVID-19 event brought out the worst in the human race, especially when it came to our companion animals.

At the start of the shutdown, there were not enough breeders to meet demand, and the shelters were emptied. (Which goes to show that - if the human race really wanted to - overflowing shelters could be a thing of the past almost instantly!)

People wanted pets to keep them company while they were shut off from everyday life and society.

But once the world reopened, those animals were abandoned in shelters, and today shelters and rescues are still bursting at the seams.

Where do all these animals come from in the first place?

  • #1 is irresponsible people who fail to properly care for their pets. They aren't accountable for having their kittens and puppies spayed or neutered at an appropriate age, and they allow their pets to reproduce, intentionally or otherwise.

  • They give or sell the offspring to other careless people, who are also careless, and the cycle never ends!

  • Selfish and irresponsible people include Back-Yard-Breeders, For-Profit-Only-Breeders, and - the worst of the worst, Puppy and Kitty Mills.

Costly pedigree animals don't usually end up in shelters or abandoned, but some certainly can.

Many backyard and for-profit-only breeders have pedigreed and registered animals, but those animals are likely to have forged or false pedigrees, or the papers may not even be for the animals being bred.

We do not have a responsible, legitimate middle ground.

Our choices are:

  • Spending thousands on presumably responsibly bred purebreds

  • Going online and taking our chances of finding an honest person with healthy animals, or

  • Going to a shelter to 'rescue' one.

Here's a thought.

How about we stop taking responsibility and picking up the tab for the thousands of selfish and irresponsible people? Those people need to be held accountable for their choices and actions, period.

The prevailing belief and expectation among people who ethically breed animals is that the breeder is responsible for the animals they intentionally bring into the world, from the day they are born until the day they leave the earth.

How about we turn that around?

If YOU get a pet, it is YOUR responsibility - from the day YOU CHOOSE to bring it into YOUR home until the day he or she crosses Rainbow Bridge.

Our companion animals are not toys. They are not something to get one day and toss into the recycling bin the next, or to leave behind when you move, have a baby, or find a new boyfriend or girlfriend.

They are living, breathing, sentient beings who deserve better, with or without a pedigree.
